Prime Minister John Howard announced Blacktown City as one of four communities in Australia to become a solar city under the Federal Government Solar Cities program established in 2004. The consortium includes BP Solar, ANZ Banking Group, Integral Energy, Landcom, Big Switch Projects and Blacktown City Council.
