DetailsRoss Raynor West (Service number: 406/28988) was born around 1893 in North Sydney, NSW, a son of Henry West and Florence Eliza Walker. He attended school at The Meadows Public School in Seven Hills and Parramatta South Secondary School.
Ross fought in the 56th Australian Infantry Battalion and was involved in the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. He was wounded in the wrist and was sent back home to Sydney via Fremantle for treatment. Once recovered from his injuries, Ross re-enlisted in July 1916 and fought in the 14th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery, where he returned to active service in 1917. Ross was killed by a shell on 25 September 1917 at the age of 23 and was buried in the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial Cemetery, leper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
