Former Ropes Creek Station, Ropes Crossing

Details

DescriptionDuring World War 2, the Australian government opened a munitions factory near St Marys. To transport munitions workers to and from St Marys, a small rail line was built. The Ropes Creek rail line, named after nearby Ropes Creek, started at St Marys and then branched off the main western railway line. The line opened in 1942 with two stations: Dunheved (March 1942) and Ropes Creek (June 1942).
The line closed to passengers in the 1980s, though remained open for freight traffic to Sims Metals. The line was officially closed on 22 March 1986.
The park, opened in 2014, features the remaining platform, overhead beams, rail tracks and old machinery as historic design elements.
